Small-Print Tutorial - Warp Factor 1

Let's keep this short and sweet. Today I'd like to encourage you to mess around with the "IWarp" distortion filter. It's traditional for some reason to warp the features of the handsome and many-talented Mr Will Smith. So please save the image to the left, and open in GIMP in the usual way.

Select <Filters><Distorts><Iwarp> and an IWarp dialog will pop up with a copy of the image of our dashing hero. Click wherever you fancy and drag the cursor to stretch the image. If you mess up, you can always click the <Reset> button.

TIP1 : break your distort into stages and click <OK> to commit the changes at the end of each stage. That way you can use Ctrl+Z (<Edit><Undo>) and Ctrl+Y (<Edit><Redo>) to undo partial changes rather than having to <Reset> the whole thing.

TIP2 : You can select a small part of the image (using the Rectangle Select Tool from the toolbox) to narrow the scope of the IWarp. That way the IWarp dialog will have a zoomed image of (say) Mr. Smith's nostrils.

Do have a go : I'd like to use the IWarp tool again tomorrow to make our first animated ".GIF".
